I grew up in Buffalo Grove, IL. Libertyville HS was my rival during high school sports! (I went to school before Vernon Hills HS existed). Art has always been an interest of mine, but it wasn't till my senior year in high school that I decided I wanted it to be my college focus. I studied mostly 2D art at the University of Illinois and eventually chose Visual Arts Education as my career path. I graduated with a BFA in 2006 and started teaching right away. I earned my Masters in Education from NIU in 2010. I worked in a few different high schools across the Chicagoland area before choosing to switch gears and teach elementary and middle school art. I started at Oak Grove in 2012 and I couldn't be happier. What a wonderful school community! My husband and I reside in the northern suburbs with our daughter and two dogs. In my little spare time, I focus on Photography as my person art medium.

As a child, I was fascinated by music and sound. I started playing percussion in fifth grade and took every opportunity to see and hear live performances. Music was deeply rooted in me. In High school I started playing with a semi pro Orchestra that allowed me to play some of the world’s greatest music ever written, and begin to perform in Chicago’s own Orchestra Hall. I was 17 years old and was so nervous for my Solo on the timpani; I thought I would pass out. Later that year, we toured Taiwan, & Japan playing in the Music festival of Kumamoto. That trip solidified my plan for the future. I decided to major in music and share my love for performing with students. I graduated from Illinois State University with a bachelor’s degree in Music Education. I taught a few years in Lexington Illinois, and went back for a Masters degree in Music ed. at Vander Cook College of Music. I have been teaching in Illinois since 1994, and continue to enjoy playing music in my Church Orchestra, worship team, and occasionally, you may find me with a Santa hat on playing in a Salvation Army quintet, or at T.U.B.A. Christmas. I have switched my focus of major instruments over the years from Drums, to low brass, to Guitar, and currently am enthralled with playing flute and clarinet. Making music truly brings fulfillment, and happiness to life. Wherever you may run into me, an instrument is likely within arm’s reach.

I grew up in Homewood, Illinois. I was in my first play in 5th grade and was hooked forever. I started my teaching career in 1995 in south Chicago. I completed a Master of Arts in Literacy Education at Northeastern Illinois University in December 2012 shortly after joining the Oak Grove Community. I also hold a Master of Arts in Education from Saint Xavier University. In 2008, I was chosen by peers to receive the Illinois Theatre Association's Award for Excellence in Creative Dramatics. When working with children, I combine storytelling, creative drama, and often writing to create literature-based lessons. My ultimate goal is to highlight each child's natural artistic ability.
